Garlic Knots with Herbed Butter recipe

  • Author: Caroline

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Herbed Butter:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then mix until the dough begins to come together.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm environment for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 2: Shape the Knots

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Divide the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  3. Roll and Knot: Roll each piece into a rope about 8 inches long. Tie each rope into a knot and place it on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3: Herbed Butter Topping

  1. Prepare the Herbed Butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  2. Brush the Knots: Generously brush the herbed butter mixture onto each knot, ensuring they are well-coated.

Step 4: Bake and Serve

  1. Bake the Knots: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the knots are golden brown and cooked through.
  2. Final Brush: Once out of the oven, brush the knots again with any remaining herbed butter for extra flavor.
  3. Serve Warm: Serve the garlic knots warm, garnished with extra fresh herbs if desired.
